I’ve been a participant of the Mentoring Program for several years, first as a mentee and now as a mentor. I’ve found it to be a rewarding and enriching relationship in which both the mentors and mentees benefit. As part of the program, I’ve benefited by staying connected to, or meeting new colleagues that I might not otherwise regularly engage. Mentoring enabled me to learn some of the challenges that my colleagues encounter, and helped me understand how I might be able to provide some guidance based on my understanding of the campus community, or just challenge a mentee, or myself, to think and respond differently. Everyone comes into the program with their own wisdom, career and life experience. I enjoyed the process from both perspectives and I maintain the relationships I’ve developed through the program. The long term benefits are obvious. I would encourage others to participate in either capacity.
